The Synopsis
At nineteen, Dev has worn the word coconut his whole life. Brown outside, white on the inside. He hides behind hip-hop verses scribbled in his bedroom, a secret language he once shared with Grandpa, a musician. When he accidentally ruins Grandpa’s Hindu funeral rites, Dev is left reeling with guilt. A simple trip home from the shops with his sharp-tongued Grandma becomes an unlikely odyssey through industrial suburbs, clashing and connecting over grief, language, and a shared love of profanity. In a rare, unguarded moment, Dev shares the rap he’s been secretly writing to honour his Grandpa. What starts as mischief becomes a secret language between them. Profanity leads to something deeper. A bridge across grief, a way back into culture and language, and the first uncertain notes of healing.
